I doubt that I will get much use out of Wii Fit until sometime in the fall. However, my husband has been using it every single night. I am curious to see what the end result will be. The Wii Ft balance board is much sturdier then one would expect, but then it would have to be to support the weight of its player. The game calculates your weight and BMI. Unless you are severely under weight be prepared to have the Wii tell you that you are “overweight.” BMI can be a little unforgiving and I hope that this doesn’t screw with too many people’s self image and self esteem.
The first part of the game works similar to the Nintendo DS game, Brain Age. You are forced to go through a series of different balance and aerobic tests. Once finished your “Wii Fit Age” is calculated based on your results. Ideally you would want you age to be younger then you already are. So far I have seen my husband fluctuate from either ten years older to falling right around his own age.
Next you can choose to play mini games which train you in balance or aerobics. I have found that watching one play the hula hoop game can make for a few laughs. There are a great number of mini games and I think that my husband has yet to unlock them all.
Lastly you can pick a personal trainer, male or female. They can teach you yoga or challenge you to various exercise contests. One bug we have noticed during a challenge was the fact that the balance board was not registering any of the push ups that my husband had completed. The Wii cheated and then boasted about it.
In the end I can say that for us, Wii Fit was a great purchase, though if it wasn’t for the giftcard we used, I doubt I would have spent the full $90. Check back in a few weeks to see if my husband has met any of his weight loss goals.
